We rented a car through British Airways at Avis Rome airport We have no complaints about the car itself, BUT Avis slapped on without us knowing a £611 extra insurance charge which we only discovered on return to UK.We specifically said at Rome Airport that we had prepaid for Car hire waiver insurance through SAGA UK but they ignored us and are now claiming I signed an agreement.Well after waiting for 70 minutes to be seen at the desk in 37 degree heat clearly my brain was not working.They have reimbursed us 50 pct (£318 which is generous indeed thank you AVIS!) for which we are grateful,very grateful, but I am still seeking the full repayment. The people at the desk in Rome etc were fine but later after you have hired and back in UK you dont get treated with same politeness and have to deal with Bulgarian call center where you get told how naive you were to sign without realizing! which is a bit patronizing.So the car was great etc and I would rate that bit 9 out of 10 but after care if you have a complaint not very happy. I mean £611 extra insurance for 14 days that is an exorbitant amount.BA and my credit card company are doing what they can to sort this,and AVIS UK have responded well on twitter, but its only by complaining on twitter that I have got a response I will not use Avis again which is sad as apart from this financial glitch they were A1 and hired us a great vehicle for which we said thank you and as I said BA have tried their best to help us.Avis you do the car hire bit very well just please dont try and trick people who are hot and tired out of money for insurance they said they dont need as this leaves "a bad taste in the mouth" as it were and has spoilt what was otherwise a good transaction with hardworking Avis staff getting car ready and receiving it back, they were very helpful and five star! Just dont rip Brits off we dont like it

Hired a car in LA, with a different drop off location. The staff were a little slow to get to us, but got the job done efficiently when they did.The car was fine, a little Mazda which was perfect for our purposes. It was incredibly easy dropping the car off in San Luis Obispo. No problems at all. Having dealt with maybe the worst car hire company in the world (Green Motion), I have a much greater appreciation for the ones who do a good job.

I recently rented a car from JFK Avis. The person at the check in counter was least friendly and answered my questions with an attitude. The interior of the car was dirty. It wasn't a very pleasant experience overall.

He always goes the extra mile to get to know and to help out his regular customers. He turns a one time renter into a regular customer with his excellent customer service. A++++ RATING FROM ME

I was nervous about renting a car in general, because all the rental companies seems to get so poor reviews. But despite the very bad Trustpilot rating, I placed my booking with Avis.com, because I really didn't believe it could be that bad, if I just made sure to read everything carefully. And I was right.Everything on the website was easy to understand, and I found the terms and conditions pretty straight forward, even for a foreigner like me (I am from Denmark). There were no shady terms or anything.I changed the date/time of pick up and delivery several times, with no complications and change of rate at all. (The total number og rental days and hours were the same, I just changed the date and time, but still cool with the flexibility).I booked a 'convertible Mustang or similar', to be picked up at San Diego airport, and delivered to Howard Street in San Francisco. I hoped for the Mustang, and when we came to pick it up, we had the opportunity to choose between two different colors (Pretty cool, because I feared we would get another car, like a Chrysler 200 or something).There were no waiting in line. We went straight to the counter, and the Avis guy was really nice and chatty. We went through the terms and after af few minutes, we received the keys and could drive away. The car was fully covered, so we really didn't have to look after scratches or anything, but just to be sure, we took pictures of minor things.The car was in good condition, used of course, but what you could expect from a rental. It drove great, and yeah, it was just a super nice driving experience. I can really recommend renting the Mustang!When we delivered the car, we drove direcly into the garage with no waiting time. A lady checked the car really quickly. I guess she was just looking for major things, but of course found none. After a minute she was done, and we went to the counter and paid the EXACT same amount, which I was quoted on the website. That was it. For the record, I paid 346 USD + tax for 4 days with different pick up/delivery locations - I think it's a really fair price.I had a great experience with Avis, and I think they deserve a good review, because they seem to only get bad reviews, and I do not really believe, that their Trustpilot score reflect peoples actual overall experiences, because this was just as straight forward as it could be.

I was not told i had to pay a $250 deposit when I reserved on line. They told me at pick up and said it would be returned with in two days of drop off.When funds did not come I called and automatic voice msg said funds would take 7-10 days. Car was not ready when I arrived. I've found that with other companies. Apparently, they are circling a small inventory during Covid.

A one week rental in Figari, Corsica. Read so many horror stories about this location, particularly about other main-stream brands. Finally opted for Avis since I'm a Preferred member and have to say the whole pick-up and return experience was so hassle free. Early in season hence brand new vehicle, cheerful and efficient staff both on arrival and departure. Now I understand things may get fraught with a half dozen charter flights arriving in high season, but for sure would use Avis again here.
