From a renter standpoint, I find VRBO totally fine. Have rented from here several times with no issues. But as a home owner trying to list on VRBO, this site is lucky to get 1 star. Have no idea why I can't get my listing live. AirBnB was super easy and got live in a day. VRBO's system is super dated and antiquated. So I responded to the "dedicated support rep" they assigned us, and she said to contact customer support. hahaha why assign someone to me. Tried to reach out to chat support and they ended chat as soon as I asked the question. Things are going swimmingly. I find it amusing when I want to give a company my business and they make it so difficult. Maybe I'll just stick with AirBnB

It’s a great platform, I prefer it than Airbnb, but not for the payments. I have been waiting 10 days to get paid, clients have already left the property, and still haven’t got the funds. Great platform, but they have the worst payment system.

My plans changed a couple of times due to date changes in my schedule. This place was way more than accommodating me with that. Almost instant answers to any questions that I emailed to them. I haven't even been there yet but I know that it's going to be a wonderful experience!Thank you Vrbo!

Properties have got better too, but here are some obvious and not so obvious tips to find the a great place for your family holiday.Firstly you do want a great holiday experience? Then download the VRBO app to your phone. Then enter the general area you want to visit with the filters option.The filters shows you how many homes are in each selection you make, so play with these to cut down numbers and then sort. I sort by reviews. My recommended filters1. Premier host A good rental will have a conscientious and great host striving to keep his guests happy, the home will be well prepared. Premier host status is by VRBO invitation only. They must have had great reviews and be actively working well on vrbo. Why risk your holiday with anybody else?2. Smoke detector checkbox. You and your family want to sleep safe? yes? A good host will certainly have diligently filled out his rental profile with lots of details to show and include this important detail. If they actually don't have a detector what else is missing? or if they just forgot then what other vital safety item is missing?3. There is a COVID pandemic in progress. Planning a holiday is unpredictable. A good host can give free cancellation A 30-day notice to cancel for free or even down to two weeks. It's not a big risk for the host and people rarely cancel their holiday unless they are really are forced for example, closed borders or other unlikely circumstances. Tick one or both these boxes in your search.Finally when you fall in love with the photographs, always read the reviews carefully. If they are not nearly all glowing with praise and contain varied and specific details and some are just short and very sweet, then move on. Forgive the rare 1 star from someone who felt there was some dust behind the sofa or from a similar person with an unlucky experience, like a power cut. And remember, there's no obligation for guest to even leave a review. People with families are busy people when they get back home they have no time. So a detailed review from a busy mother with a baby and family in tow is worth a lot more, that a short sweet review from a retired couple. Recent reviews are worth more than older. Finally VRBO has an excellent map search which combines with filters so you can hop about on the map zoom in out and order your list and still see each property clearly flagged on the search area if the map. And one more thing, if you have a extra dog or child, to fit in, just ask the owner and at the same time tell them why you think you will have a great holiday there. We want guests who will have the best possible holiday experience, because happy guests look after the place, happy people leave detailed positive reviews and often come back, so if we think you will love it, we will do our very best to help.

When it’s booked via VRBO. I booked a vacation rental with 100% refund splashed all over the listing (still has that today all over it) and I selected this property because of the 100% guarantee refund backed by VRBO. My account still shows 100% refund available but when I came to cancel it, I’m told that there is small print in the rental agreement that means the property owner can keep $292 dollars for bank charges and this overrides the big headline advertising all over the listing. This is at best false and misleading advertising and at worst - fraud. You decide. People will be booking this property today based on the 100% guarantee - it’s wrong. I’ve reported this to the agency in the USA that deals with consumer scams and I will also report it in the uk. It’s very disappointing behaviour and renders any guarantee from VRBO as meaningless rhetoric in my opinion.29th March update:VRBO got my refund for me! I had to push as the first agent fobbed me off but Katrina was great, tenacious and successful.

Easy to book and I was kept fully informed during process. Good info on site and details regarding what to expect. Added Fees seem out of line but The process went fine.

We were beyond pleased with our condo rental at Crescent Beach. Property was very clean, convenient to our activities and offered us a great view of the ocean from the kitchen, dining room and living room. The balcony was roomy and excellent for eating outside. The room was nicey decorated with lighthouse and beach theme throughout. Had everything we needed to cook and clean up. Was great that linens and towels were supplied and we had a nice size washer and dryer. Thanks for allowing us to use your property for the week!!

have just returned from a fantastic 3 dsys at this lovely chalet. Caldon 43 Norton park, The chalet was beautiful. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The beds were to die for. I congratulate the owners on this really beautiful place. It is quiet and central for anything you want to do. I would thoroughly recommend this Chalet to anyone. Don't miss out you will not be disappointed

We have used VRBO several times before. So far we’ve been lucky and haven’t had much trouble. The issue I had recently involves their “quick confirmation” process. We booked a place, received a confirmation, paid in full, then got cancelled by the owner. Back to the drawing board. Wait 3 days for refund, then booked another place, received confirmation, paid in full, got cancelled by the owner. I spoke with someone in customer service who said “Don’t reserve anything until you message the owner and make sure the place is really available.”My question is-what good is a confirmation if the owner can cancel after you’ve paid? Why not call it a request to book and allow the owner to let you know BEFORE YOU PAY whether they will accept your request. I spent 4 days staring at my phone searching and searching. This process needs to be fixed
