Dream vacation

I went on a 7-day Caribbean cruise on Oasis of the seas with my family (2 kids - 7 and 9 years old) and I have to say it was an amazing experience for all of us! We kept ourselves well informed about everything in advance and had booked both shows and excursions prior to departure date. Boarding was quite tardy, but understandably so as there were over 5000 passengers boarding! We got a clean stateroom with a big circular window, where the kids loved to sit and watch the waves and some occasional flying fish. Our stateroom attendant was charming and helpful, a real star. The first morning we didn't have any warm water, but after a short visit to the guest service desk the issue was resolved quickly. All members of staff were friendly and made an effort to make our vacation memorable and pleasant. The food was really good. We mainly ate in Windjammer, where they served buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone got what they liked, we got to try food from all over they world and it was always fresh. Desert selection was huuuuuge! We also had breakfast at American Icon and dinner at Grande, which was delicious as well. There was always something to do onboard. The shows were great - especially the ice skating show which we were all amazed with. Our ports of call were in the Bahamas, St Thomas and St Martin and we had booked excursions on all three of them. In the Bahamas, we went to Blue Lagoon Island to meet with dolphins and enjoy the unbelievably beautiful beach. The organisational part, after we got off the ship and before we started the excursion was a bit chaotic, but the rest was amazing. On St Thomas, we took a sailing and snorkelling trip in the afternoon (which was a great adventure) and in the morning we just hung out on emerald beach near the ship. On St Martin we did a see and sea tour (sightseeing and exploring a reef by boat) and then got dropped off by a near-by beach so we could walk back to the ship when the time came. I would have given this trip a 10 star review if I could. It was great <3 We wished we had booked 2 weeks instead of just 1. As we live in Sweden, it's quite a distance to travel and more than half the price of the vacation is for flight tickets, but hopefully we'll be able to experience Symphony fo the seas in a few years.

We booked with tui for a taster cruise…

We booked with tui for a taster cruise with drinks package (independence of the sea) which was due to be paid 4 months before departure. When the drinks package was due tui informed us this was no longer available. I wanted to book an all inclusive which was agreed time of booking. I phoned royal they informed me this isn't a boose cruise. I was furious. It was my 60th birthday and wanted all my party to have all inclusive which included different coffees cold drinks and wines cocktail

Have just return from a very…

Have just return from a very disappointed cruise on the Independence of the Sea. We have always been very happy on the Independence but now it feels that they only want the younger people on board. The latest pop music was too loud and playing everywhere except our cabin. We used to love sitting along the royal Promenade and watching the world go by, but not now with the music. In the Windjammer, they kept running out of cutlery and butter and we had to walk around the dining room to find any. The shows were not as good as they used to be, very poor.

Great staff, good disabled cabin, superb food and service pity about onboard prices

After much soul searching booked 9 day Fjord cruise with Royal Caribbean. Had to provide lot of information up front as my wife is disabled and needs large scooter to get around ship and shore. On arrival bags disappeared from car park and re-appeared in cabin. From the start all staff could not do enough to help and were friendly. Disabled cabin was substantial with good shower facilities. Website details and travel agents did not make it clear that kettle and coffee were provided. This was essential as my wife needs heat to deal with the pain. Restaurant staff and meals were very good and they assigned us a permanent table to prevent parking problems. Would advise booking "my time" dining online as early as possible as gets busy. Many activities available which we did not take part in but obviously some did. Little promenade cafe was great for snacks and could really be extended. Free room service on continental breakfast was a godsend. Main negatives were price of drinks, fact that duty free prices did not appear to be duty free and were no better than UK online. Also continual marketplace sales of artwork, watches etc etc. Even a Toblerone was over twice the price of normal duty free on a ferry. Basically trying to grind out the last buck. Personally I would be tempted to remove the jewellery and handbag shops and increase passenger cabins. Also run specials promotions with some bottles of wine cheaper to encourage more sales, most people purchased by the glass. Possibly cut down on entertainment activities when it's a restful scenic cruise. Will be booking again as staff and people we met were great.

Independence of the seas

I saw a review on here that described RHI cruises as 'Butlins on sea'. Having been to Butlins in my youth I see the similarities: full board, bars, swimming, music, shows, even cramped chalets/cabins! We now have more disposable income and can afford to attend these 'holiday camps at sea'. So much here then comes down to perception. If you feel you are going to get gentile, glamorous, cruising of yesteryear, then you are going to be disappointed. However, if you are happy with a kind of 'Butlins gold standard', then you are going to be fine and have a great time. My kids certainly did. There was so much to occupy them. For me the stand out was the food and the customer service, both of which were excellent, and the experience of travelling by sea to other countries. The negatives, principally that the ship feels cramped - though this is subjective of course.

New Years Cruise

Booked a New Years Cruise which had one port changed and then one port cancelled while on the cruise. 8 days with 3 stops made most of the trip on the boat. While fun for a while, 5 1/2 days out of 8 days sailing time becomes monotonous.... Not to mention that there were many who looked to be quarantined to their rooms on our floor. 1/2 of our group left sick on our last day. The crew was nice, food was good, shows were ok....

Not the Jewel of the seas

Booked Jewel of the seas in Feb 2020 starting from Dubai. I booked a balcony cabin and was shocked to find how cramped the cabin was . It had a double bed and 2 seater sofa and table ( which we removed as it was just too cramped) . The fixtures were worn and shabby , sofa arm was worn, dirty and ripped . Storage cupboards were worn and could do with a re-varnish , bathroom was also in a state of needing tlc.Having said that , staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. We eat all the timeIn the restaurant called tides , brekki and dinner anyway. The service and food is second to none , great quality food you can’t beat it ! Staff were great knew what we wanted and told us what to avoid for our pallet and dietary requirement. I booked a birthday cake for my wife initially to the room but then called to change the time to dining at 8.30. They messed up and delivered it in the morning spoiling the surprise , after I spoke to guest services , I was refunded my money and sent some free appetisers to the room ,the cake was delivered at dinner with the usual waiting staff gathering round to sing happy birthday. I paid for 2 drinks packages , soda package which they give you a large plastic cup that you have to carry with you to refil at the windjammer on one of those dispensing drinks machines , what a waste of time and effort that was ! We found the cruise evening entertainment to be repetitive music and singing each night, not for me . Other activities are on offer and are very good . Overall not a bad cruise , but the ship isn’t the wow factor and should not be called jewel of the seas as it certainly isn’t .it was our first experience on RC having been on 3 cruises with MSC ( preziosa, splendida and seaside ) these ships were massive with bigger rooms and better entertainment .

excellent prompt service from Royal Caribbean

Just wanted to share my positive experience with Royal Caribbean whilst going through this dreadful situation we all find ourselves in. We were due to take a cruise on 11th April from Fort Lauderdale. I telephoned Royal Caribbean just 1 week ago to request a refund and it is in my bank account today. No problems. I have a lot of confidence in Royal Caribbean as a company and I have actually booked another cruise for 28th March 21 because I know if there are any issues it will be dealt with promptly. Well done to you and your staff for working so hard during these dreadful times.

Expected better

This was my first cruise and, overall, I was glad to do it and had a great time. As with any 3 star review the were pros and cons, so let's start with the good stuff:Food, service and drinks we're all excellent all the time. The ports were awesome, but we did miss 1 due to weather, I was told be regular cruisers this is common, so don't set your heart on seeing everything!Kid's club was fantastic, my boy was desprate to go, rather than making him (there was a 7 dollar an hour charge after 10 but this is reasonable)Cleanliness and room cleaning very good. Now the cons! This is not a cheep holiday but after paying for your room and food EVERYTHING Is charged for! Drinks £350 per person! (with no drinks package a beer is £7, a cocktail £10 ish) kids drinks £50! WiFi £70! Be aware that a lot of the time you are near enough land to get a signal. Tips for drinks 70 quid and 400 pounds of tips automatically added to your room!! (you can remove this one but not before you sail) And lots more. My £3800 cruise cost over 5 grand!Linked to this is the constant, annoying up selling. Staff seem more focused on getting as much out of you as they can. We did save a lot of money booking excursions though Cruise 118, rather than on board. The organisation was poor with lots of queing to be first on and of boat.Lastly, and something that spoiled the trip was leaving the ship on the last day. We were made to leave room at 8:30 and leave the ship at 9am, our transfer was not until 11:30 we had to wait for 2 and a half hours in a gazebo with 1 wooden bench in 35 degree heat. There were no RC staff to help or advise. It felt very much like Royal Caribbean were saying, we've had your money now bog off!
