I rented a vacation property in Florida…

I rented a vacation property in Florida and VRBO blocked my VRBOr eview. Said it needed work. Here it is.You decidemazing 5 Bed Single Family with Private Pool up to 12 Guests - 8992 CC 3 stars Property was spotlessly clean but not as grand as pics. Pool the size of large hot tub. Called property manager upon arrival and left message to ask where to park second car as I thought street spots were numbered for other condos. They never got back to me. I figured it out. Also, the advertisement pictures show a pool table. We really had plans to play pool at night- one of the reasons we took the place. But there was only one pool stick with a broken tip. Unusable. I texted owner who was very responsive to texted questions BEFORE we arrived. But not after we checked in. I explained situation and politely asked him if there was something that could be done etc. He never responded either. I did receive several communications from the property managers insisting that I send copies of my drivers license and credit card beforehand and a list of what I can and can’t do and costs for each item that is missing which seemed ironic. How about charging the previous person for breaking the cue stick and running out to Walmart and buying the new guests a stick. The general fees were extensive, extremely creative and exorbitant including a damage waiver that you don’t get back even if you don’t damage anything. I would not go back. Caution advised.Our booking in Wales

..after booking and paying for the 5 star rated apartment in Wales, Vrbo stated that I would get the accomodation address, key details one week before our stay. This did not happen. I tried to access the website which stated that I had no booking.I then read the horrendous trust pilot reviews and became worried. Over the next four days I contacted Vrbo 5 times by email and also by phone, 3 of the calls lasted 40 mins. One was cut off immediately after I explained the problem after waiting 10 minutes to get through. However on the 3rd call the operative apologised and said they would email the information I needed to find and access the apartment. But this never came! I called again and by this time I'm both annoyed and extremely worried.The call handler eventually told me that they could not help because the host of the apartment, was supposed to send me the details. I contacted the number for the host who told me that Vrbo was supposed to send me the details re the address, key and general instructions. She confirmed that her apartment was booked out to me.This was a relief to hear, especially as our holiday was only 3 days away.The host then sent me the details and allowed us into the apartment a lot earlier as a way of an apology. The apartment was spacious and extremely well equipped, it was warm and generally comfortable. But there was a pervasive smell of damp in the bedroom hallway and in the main bedroom as if something was very wet and hadnt dried properly. The twin room was the same which had penetrative damp down the walls with black mould and paper coming off. The room wasn't suitable to sleep in and the children said they were very cold at night.The wall by the fire door escape was also very wet with damp. The bathroom sinks had black mould/scum around the taps and plug hole. The MDF beading down the side of one bath was completely broken down and had expanded away from the bath leaving a 1cm gap.I told the host ( owner) about all of this. she said that the damp was due to the property being old, being at the seaside and the extreme weather conditions which I thought was rather condescending. She then said that she had got very good reviews, which is true, and that the apartment had been rented out every week all summer but no-one else, including her cleaner, had complained or brought this to her attention. This was a bit of a contradiction, and she then said that the building was going to be repaired ready for next year, that she would speak with the cleaner about the black round the taps etc. Overall the apartment was a great size, but the accomodation as described by Vrbo has clearly not been inspected by them. It isn't 5 star as advertised.I have booked holidays such as this with other companies lots of times and really don't expect everything to be perfect. But I have never experienced such a high level of stress and anxiety and the holiday lets have never disappointed me especially through being damp and fusty.I wont use Vrbo againThey sent me a survey for feedback.All it said wasDid you enjoy your holiday in Wales?Yes/No

Good customer service

We are staying tomorrow, so will update fully if anything changes here, but -I wanted to add a different opinion to the majority here, we had some issues with the host which I will explain below, and, I came onto read these and my heart dropped as I was awaiting a response from customer services.My experience, has overall, with Vrbo, been really great. Obviously, there was a mix up, and our host claims he wasn't ever on Vrbo and thought it was a scam email, so, didn't answer any of my emails or questions. A few days go by after initally booking and no response to questions, so I contact Vrbo and they assured me booking was correct and would be going through, it's protected if anything arises and I go about my next few days, I then ask the host again and no response, so I get back in touch with Vrbo who explained to contact the host directly, which I did, to the response above.I immediately contacted Vrbo after being told the property wasn't available, I called a few times and the UK line wasn't working, but, did manage to get through, I had a call at 6pm last night (27/08/2021) which I was told they would find a suitable room, and I emailed over the screenshots of our message to them and they sent over some properties, all the ones online Vrbo weren't suitable, so they were happy enough to go beyond Vrbo and into Expedias branches and after a call this morning around 11AM I was told they were looking at a hotel that was more suited for our stay and explained that they were refunding us and giving the hotel free as a good will gesture.There was obviously a miscommunication somewhere from the host to Vrbo and the accommodation was booked, whilst it was not available, which sucks, but, i simply cannot really fault the process of what has happened after.The whole thing caused a lot of stress and given it was so close, but in less than 18 hours I was given confirmation of the new property and the explanation of my refund.To anyone here, I'd recommend that you go for a premium host or one with ratings!But, I've found Vrbos customer services, pretty spot on.Thanks again!

We have had such a fabulous time

We have had such a fabulous time. The cabin was absolutely perfect minus a few maintenance issues, no problem though. Check in was so easy. The little extras in the cabin was especially nice, seosonings and games,popcorn. We enjoyed our trip

Useless customer service.

I agree with several other posters that VRBO customer service is useless. I booked with one of their 'premium hosts' in March 2022. The property charged for extra guests. We originally thought we'd have extra guests but a few people dropped out. The owner has not refunded the extra guest payment and doesn't respond to any attempts to contact him. VRBO told me to negotiate with him and didn't do anything. I've referred it to my credit card company.

We stayed at the Morning Star Ranch in…

We stayed at the Morning Star Ranch in Pleasant View TN and had the best time ever. Wonderful views, fantastic pool, excellent accommodations. The owner even brought us food to feed the Alpacas here on the ranch. 12 of us in the family came from across the country to stay here on the ranch and all slept comfortably. The hot tub would easily fit as many as can stay on the property. So worth the money. Also close enough to Nashville to make the drive to town for the day.

I’m very unsure of the rules during Covid the…

I’m very unsure of the rules during the most recent provincial wide lockdown. From what I have read it is illegal to rent a VRBO unless you need housing. For me that is not the case. I can not go on this trip knowing I’m breaking the law. Can I be refunded for my deposit? I reached to the owners and their is no future opportunities in the near future. Please let me know how I can feel confident that I will be fully refunded RegardsDavid Kendal
