Gravity Pope is one of the few go-to stores in Canada for the best shoes. I rely on them to source out the best Italian-made creations, made individually by artisans, and get them to me without hassle. The prices are not cheap, and unless you spend $300, shipping is expensive at over $20—though, if you're willing to wait for sales, and risk losing your size, bargains can be found over time. My only criticism, and it is a severe one, is with their shipping team, and it is two-fold:Firstly, they never pack the shoes well. Ever. You can clearly see the shoes have been tried on repeatedly because no one bothers to re-lace, re-zip, or re-do anything to make a pleasurable presentation to the buyer. Tissue paper is never put back into place, shoe fillers that maintain the integrity of the shoe form are thrown carelessly into the box, and shoes are often shoved into their boxes with no thought or appreciation. I purchased a $560 pair of Moma suede boots last week. When they arrived today, they looked like they had come from a bargain basement store run by teenagers. Seriously, a real mess! It's sad that whoever is in charge of shipping doesn't take more pride in their work on behalf of the company, and appreciate that someone has paid a lot of money for this merchandise. Secondly, if you do not buy more than one pair at a time, they wrap the shoe box in shipping paper—perhaps to save a shipping box—and tape the paper directly to the box. When you remove the wrapping, the box is severely blemished. Oh, who am I kidding? It's torn apart. So, if you're planning on gifting, better luck next time, because despite having reached out to customer service, you'll get nothing more than an empty apology. No one there does anything to make it right or assure that it won't happen again. And, it does happen again. Often. So, Gravity Pope is a mixed bag: Great shoes, sloppy service.
