I don't understand all the bad reviews! I have never sold clothing to them though. However the things I have purchased are in excellent condition and I got them at great prices. I would highly recommend shopping at thredUP.

The box was such a fun idea, and it was easy to get across what I wanted out of it.

Im very happy with my experience with Thred-Up. I received my item in a very reasonable amount of time,and I am happy with it. Im also impressed with how quickly I received my item because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. I Think That Thred-Up Is an Excellent Way To Shop. (Who Has Watched The Movie "Evita", About First Lady Eva Peron In The 1940's & 50's?;She Had Such A Love For Fashion,And Was Believed To Have Owned 400 Pairs Of Shoes!! I Love That Movie) Now I Can Be More Like HER With Thred-Up.

Everything arrived in good condition and promptly. I assume that due to the large volume of items it would be impossible to iron these items but that would be something I would like to see.

The products are good, the price is a little higher than I'm used to, the size is a problem. Not everyone sizes things using the same measuring tape. Returns aren't easy but they were cordial about the returns. It would be wise to read the fine print on their site.

My first package (#2/2) arrived earlier than expected and everything was packaged beautifully and looked great. I did decide to keep 4/7 items because the 3 I didn’t keep were too small. But overall I really like this site. There is so much to choose from and the prices are amazing. If you’re into thrifting I highly recommend.

I just quit buying on this platform and I’ll tell you why. The quality of clothes they are accepting does not seem to be up to par with what it used to be and they are not checking their inventory very well for holes. I like the convenience, but some of the things the are selling for 20 to 30 dollars are things I may not even consider at a garage sale. There are definitely a few gems I’ve received but they are less and less. I feel like the prices are going up, but the quality is going down.I have deleted my account...

I don’t know why so many people are complaining about the quality of clothes from thredUP. I’ve ordered 10+ times from thredUP and not once have I gotten something of poor quality. If you’re scared of clothes being used, then stick to the new with tags or new categories. As far as selling, thredUP is not the place to sell if you want to make a lot of money for your clothes. They do give you so little money back for each item sold. If you want good return on your clothes, go to Poshmark or other second hand selling apps— although it might take months for your clothes to be sold, if they’re even sold at all. That’s the tricky thing with those apps.I like thredUP for selling/donating because they do the listings for you, take measurements, calculate cost well so that you’re not over-/under-charging, take professional pictures (so that your items are not skipped by potential customers because pictures are taken with poor quality as you often find on Poshmark, Vinted, Mercari, etc.), and market all products equally. The presentation is done well, and it makes a HUGE difference in the time your clothes are sold. I don’t send clothes to thredUP for revenue, I send it purely to clear my closet out/get quick credit I can use to invert into new clothes, so it all depends on your motivations for selling clothes.

I can't help but roll my eyes at the SELLERS BEWARE reviews. No one is holding a gun to your head making you send your items in. Read the rules before you voluntarily place your items in this company's hands. This is not a traditional consignment shop. You should not send your clothes and accessories here to make money or if you think you deserve an 80% return on your "high value" Gucci purse. Their whole business model is that they do ALL the work for you. They inspect your items (for cleanliness obviously, but also whether it's in good enough shape to sell as new with tags or "like new"), take professional photographs, and list the items for you on your website. They even ship to and collect payment from the customer, and even cover all the shipping costs, including the giant, durable bag (called "kits") that can be picked up by your USPS carrier right at your doorstep at no charge. They're covering the labor fees, shipping fees both ways (you to TU and TU to the buyer), packaging fees (the bags are self-sealing and pre-paid so you don't even need to use packing tape or print a shipping label), customer service, and saving you a trip to the post office/UPS/etc. At the same time, they are promoting the reuse movement and helping eliminate clothes waste... and if you are smart about it, you can make some extra money along the way. Not much, but it's better than nothing and is packaged neatly in the form of convenience. My experience with ThredUp was positive, and this review solely reflects my position as a seller, not a customer. I was moving and had a LOT of clothes to declutter. I ended up sending in two large bags of about 15 items total. The rules state that they do not buy fast fashion brands like F21, but I sent them in anyway because otherwise they'd go in the trash. So I did not really expect a high payout, and just thought of it as a convenient way to donate unwanted but still good/new condition items. Surprisingly, 3 of my items were accepted (brands were Kirra, Pretty Little Thing, and Blu Chic—weirdly, they didn't accept a pair of brand new Balmain jeans!) They have to sell within a certain time period or else the listing expires. 2 of the 3 accepted items sold and my total payout was $2.09. The best deal in the world? OF COURSE NOT. But again, my expectations were low so $2.09 felt better to me than $0 and having everything I was trying to get rid of end up in a landfill. 2 people made smart, eco-friendly purchases as a result, and the other items I sent in can be considered donations. ThredUp partners with donation companies so that any unbuyable clothing that is still in good shape can be donated. That is much easier for me than to go to Goodwill and drop things off on my limited schedule and transportation means. The payout method is a little inconvenient. The only way they don't charge you a service fee is if you get your compensation in the form of a prepaid debit card by mail. You can activate it and use it right away. I didn't mind, but it definitely took some time to receive in the mail and you have to hunt for the option on the website.And yes, the amount of the payout compared to what they are making off the sale is slightly absurd. You only get about 5% of the purchase price, and any coupon codes used by the customer (who you don't have to interact with at all, which is awesome) is docked from your pay. So if they use a 50% off coupon code, you'd only be receiving ~2.5% of the sale purchase. This is unusual, but it's good to know upfront. If I cared about how much money I was making off by selling here, this would make my blood boil. But since I didn't, I can't really complain.My main reason for docking a star is for what, as other reviewers can echo, is rather shady lack of transparency from TU's business practices. Remember that 1 item that did not sell that was initially accepted? Well, today I received an email explaining it was off listings now, and that I had the opportunity to reclaim it if I wanted. Turns out, reclaim just means buy back. It seems super silly (and borderline unethical) that they'd give you false hope with the illusion of the option to "reclaim" something that was once yours and generously sent in, only to make you pay for it to get it back. I didn't want the item back anyway, but the fact that the option exists and you have to pay for the item like any other customer, seems ridiculous. They should at least let you have it back for free but pay for return shipping, or something like that... or not have that option at all and go straight to the donation pile. My item was a tank top that was only valued at $7.99 so I could have purchased it back if I desperately wanted it; it's not like they were charging me hundreds of dollars. They charge you tax and shipping on top of this so....... if you decide to send something in, you should be willing to pay to get it back if it doesn't sell, or just CONSIDER IT A DONATION and nothing more than that. The additional pocket change you may or may not earn in the end is just an added bonus.If you're trying to make a more significant amount of money but are willing to put a little more work/time into it, you can sell on Poshmark or go to your local thrift/consignment shop in person until you find a price you are willing to part with, instead.
